Discipline Policies and Procedures
Expectations for Common
Areas:
Playground
Goal:
Students will treat each other
with kindness and courtesy and
play safe manner on
equipment and in recess activities.
Rules and
Expectations:
Student will...
- Follow any adult direction
first time given
- Settle differences
peacefully using conflict managers when
appropriate
- Need a pass from an adult
to leave playground or use restroom
- Play only in assigned areas
and stay away from fences, bushes,puddles,mud, and drain down
spouts
- Leave rocks, sticks, and
other dangerous and/or unsafe objects alone
- Play correctly on equipment
(no jumping from swings, no walking up the slide or going down the
slide head first
- Not engage in rough play(no
contact sports, pushing, kicking, etc.)
- Leave personal belongings:
toys, sports equipment (except mitts) at home
- Not eat candy, chew gum,
bring food or drink to the playground (exception is popcorn on
popcorn day)
- Walk immediately to line up
for class when the whistle blows
Consequences:
- Verbal
reprimand/redirection(have the student do it
correctly)
- Time out 1
minute
- Time out 5
minutes
- Loss of
recess
- Severe infractions (safety,
illegal, insubordination)

Halls
Goal:
The halls, breezeways, and ramp
to the portable will be a safe
and quiet environment where
people interact with courtesy and respect.

- Follow any adult direction

- Walk in hallways and
breezeways. (Using designated sidewalks/walkways and ramps
)
- Use quiet
voices.
- Have a pass
- Not wear hats/head
coverings in buildings (except for
medical/religious
reasons)
Consequences:
- Verbal
reprimand/redirection(have student do it
correctly)
- Notify teacher to initiate
classroom consequences
- Severe infractions(safety
concern, illegal, insubordination)

Restrooms
Goal:
The restrooms at Thompson will
be clean and safe.
Rules and
Expectations:
Students will...
- Follow any adult direction
first time given.
- Have a restroom
pass.
- Use restroom during recess,
at lunch, and/or with teacher/adult
permission.
- Use restrooms
appropriately, use proper hygiene, and leave
restroom
clean.
- Immediately inform and
adult of damage or vandalism.
Consequences:
- Verbal
reprimand/redirection(have student do it
correctly)
- Notify teacher to initiate
classroom consequences
- Use of restroom under
direct supervision for one week
- Severe infractions(safety
concern, illegal, insubordination)
referred immediately to the
principal
Assembly
Goal:
Thompson students will
positively participate in assemblies by
listening, following directions,
and by demonstrating respectful and
appreciative
behavior.
Rules and
Expectations:
Students will...
- Follow any adult direction
given the first time given.
- Wait quietly, talk softly
with neighbor until program begins.
- Give speaker/performer full
attention.
- Follow assembly
rules.
- a. Sit all the way
down.
b. Hands in
lap.
c. No
talking.
d. Have
fun.
- Clap appropriately at end
of performance.(no booing, whistling,
yelling,barking,
etc.)
- Remain seated until teacher
dismissal.
Consequences:
- Verbal
reprimand/redirection(have student do it
correctly)
- Removal from group to be
seated by an adult
- Removal from assembly to
supervised quiet room
Severe infractions(safety
concern, illegal, insubordination)
